Introduction

History

※The liberal arts field of the old field courses in the 98 academic year (8 credits):

Four sub-fields including (1) Humanities and Arts, (2) Life Knowledge, (3) Natural Sciences, and (4) Social Sciences.

※After the 99 academic year (inclusive), the liberal arts field is divided into eight sub-fields (14 credits):

(1) Personality cultivation and multiculturalism, (2) Democracy, rule of law and citizenship, (3) Globalization and socio-economic structure, (4) Chinese and foreign classics, (5) Aesthetics and aesthetic expression, (6) Technology and society, ( 7) Natural science, (8) Historical analysis and interpretation

※104 academic year (inclusive): 2 credits of the school-wide freshman liberal arts compulsory course "Introduction to Marine Science"

※110 academic year (inclusive): 2 credits of the school-wide freshman liberal arts compulsory course "Introduction to Artificial Intelligence"

Purpose

Adhering to the school's motto of honesty and integrity, we deeply cultivate the university's elite education curriculum, integrate the fields of marine science and technology and humanities, and cultivate our students to become modern citizens with both academics and ethics, as well as a broad-minded mind.

Therefore, in addition to cultivating professional scientific and technological knowledge, we must also possess the humanistic quality of "reaching the realm of heaven and man, and reaching the changes of ancient and modern times", as a whole-person education based on "morality, utilization, and welfare" to help the world and save people.

Educational goals

Cultivate our students' liberal arts courses that are both professional and academic, taking into account self-development and the ability to adapt to life, cultivating students' true, beautiful and kind personality, liberal arts temperament, and establishing a holistic education

Future outlook

This group will continue to be based on the educational goals of National Taiwan Ocean University, with marine education literacy as the core, integrating humanities, society, nature and science education, both in the design of the curriculum structure and the course teachers, in order to develop and school education goals Liberal education that is complementary to the department’s professional courses

The implementation of liberal arts education allows students to have a basic and diversified understanding of knowledge from different disciplines in addition to the study of professional knowledge.
